A. The Cherokee left against their will.General Winfield Scott stood by with seven thousand troops as Cherokee men, women and children carrying all that they owned began an 850 mile march to what is now the state of Oklahoma
Q. Sir, what were the cases of Cherokee Nation v. Georgia and Worcester v. Georgia. How do the cases relate to what is happening now?
A.Cherokee Nation v. Georgia. The Cherokee insist that they are a separate nation, and therefore Georgia cannot enforce state laws within their territory.was a case in which the United States Supreme Court vacated the conviction of Samuel Worcester and held that the Georgia criminal statute that prohibited non-Indians from being present on Indian lands without a license from the state was unconstitutional. Though they lost the case of Cherokee Nation v. Georgia, a controversial treaty allowed removal to continue. And this is what lead us to this Trail of Tears.
Q.Ma’am, Please tell us about how this movement is affecting your people and the future.
A. We lost many of our young children and our oldest tribe members. They died from diseases , starvation , exposure to weather such as extreme cold or extreme heat and mistreatment. This movement has affected our tribes because we were used to large spaces and lots of farming and now we have borders and less space.
What features of the painting do you like and why ?
The mom , child and dog walking with all the heavy bags stand out to me . The sorrow you can see in their faces it is very obvious that they are not happy to move.
